Bernard Sypniewski recently spent two weeks in the towns of Leuven, Gent, Brugge, Antwerp, Brussels, and Oostende. He spent four of those days participating in the Hard Science Linguistics Workshop and presenting a paper at the Societas Linguistica Europaea at Katoleike Universiteit, Leuven ("K.U. Leuven"). The rest of the time, he wandered about enjoying the people, the scenery, the fine food, the chocolate, and sometimes the excellent local beers. He returned with nearly 200 photographs and many stories to tell. The only problem this presented jerseyworks was how to coherently get as much of this as possible on the site. The sheep sheerers shown above represent the oldest industry in Leuven and adorn the first building of the University, established in 1475. Continue to text and pictures.
